Botanical Name: Sisyrinchium montanum

Anishanaabe Name: naubishkaukoot   

Height: about 20 cm

Season of bloom: Spring.

Growing Conditions: Sun or very light shade. Thrives in sandy or gravelly soil. Do not crowd with taller neighbours.

From Ottawa Valley or eastern Ontario sources: Yes.

Remarks: May be short-lived in gardens – 3 or 4 years. Keep it going by dividing or let it seed itself around. The seedlings are easy to distinguish as they quickly make miniature iris-like fans.
