Botanical Name: Symphyotrichum cordifolium

Height: about 50 cm

Season of bloom: September.

Growing Conditions: Light shade to sun. lean, dryish soil.

Wildlife benefits: All the late-season native asters are valuable to many species of pollinators.

From Ottawa Valley or eastern Ontario sources: Yes.

Remarks: Spreads by seeds and by rhizomes so too aggressive for many garden situations, but it makes a lovely blue ruff under leggy shrubs and in other tough places.
