Botanical Name: Silene stellata
Height: about 60 cm
Season of Bloom: Summer
Growing Conditions: Light shade to full sun, well-drained loamy soil
Wildlife Benefits: Flowers are primarily pollinated by night-flying moths
Ottawa Valley or eastern Ontario seed source: No
Seed Germination: C(30) – cold-moist stratify for 30 days
Remarks: This species from the American mid-west does not have many ecological connections in the Ottawa Valley – I just thought the interesting flowers were beautiful, and that it might be a nice companion for Royal Catchfly.
Similar species: Royal Catchfly. Also an obvious relationship to the weedy non-native Bladder Campion
