Native Plants and Clay September event

You are all invited to the two-day Native Plants and Clay event this coming weekend, September 12 and 13, at Pine Ridge Studio, Kinburn. This is a joint event with myself and potter Lis Allison, at Lis’s pottery studio. I bring a selection of my nursery-propagated native plants and set up in the garden which surrounds the studio. It is a wonderful opportunity to acquire some interesting native plants, to see Lis’s ferns and other plants growing in her woodland garden, to talk plants with other native plant enthusiasts, and to shop for sturdy, functional pottery. Many of Lis’s pieces are beautifully hand-painted in botanical themes.

The sale in on Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 4 pm. The studio is located at 6114 Carp Road, north of Kinburn. Saturday, you might combine the trip with a visit to the Carp Farmers’ Market. For this event, you can pre-order plants from my current Plant Availability list- see below. Please order by Friday noon and tell me if you are planning to be there Saturday or Sunday.

Social Media and payment options

I haven’t done much on Facebook for the past 5 years. My quarrel with FB predates the current regime in the US but my dislike has only intensified. FB used to be a way a could reach existing and new customers. I have recently joined two Canadian social media sites. Please follow me on Gander Social and on HeyCafé. I am so new to these sites, I am still figuring out how they work and so I am not being very effective at letting you know how to do this.

On a related note, I am still using Square (an American company) so that you can pay by debit card at sales and events, like the one this weekend. I was seriously beginning the process of switching to Moneris, (a point-of-sale system developed by the Bank of Montreal) when I heard the news that it had been sold to an American firm. Sigh heavily. So, I propose we all faff about finding ways to pay by e-transfer, or cash, whenever possible. In case you don’t know why this matters, VISA and Mastercard are American companies and the (high) fees the vendor pays leave Canada. E-transfer is entirely Canadian and a much better deal for the small vendor. USA has largely abandoned making physical things and a great deal of what it sells to Canada is things like financial services. I know a lot of us are not buying produce and products from the USA when we can find Canadian alternatives, so please consider extending your purchasing power decisions to financial services as well.

I know Gander Social and HeyCafé have piddling reach compared to the long established FB but the only way they can get better is if we support them.
